This blog loves schadenfreude.

How to look a tit in 3 easy steps:

1. Rip off Andrew Neil's mentioning that Greg Dyke "might" be considering standing as a London mayoral candidate by claiming it as an "exclusive" after you've consulted with your friends in the Tory party.

2. Don't bother to check this story with err, Greg Dyke, and play down the idea without mentioning that you support your mate Nick Boles, while still quoting his "spokesman".

3. Insult Greg Dyke by saying he gave a "cringeworthy performance" and that he is "all over the place and the Conservatives should have nothing to do with him" when he clarifies the story, thereby covering your embarrassment in starting the whole sorry debacle in the first place.

Yep, Iain Dale truly is a blogging expert, at least in making the rest of us look stupid.

Oh piss off. Isn't it funny how my blog broke the Lib/Con joint candidacy element which was then followed up by Sky, the BBC and everyone else. Dyke himself confirmed every element of the story. You really are a first class prick.

Make that four steps.

1. A charming comment from a man who claims that he doesn't allow abusive comments on his website.

2. Iain, the story is based on pure cloud-talk, yet you actually seem proud to have played a role in it being blown out of all proportion. Would you care to clarify your position?

I'm still trying to figure out who's been damaged more by this. At first I thought it might be the Tories in general (and the Cameron leadership in particular) but it's starting to look like the Tory bloggers might be worst hit over this.

I wonder if the msm will hop quite so fast to these exclusives in future?

Well, when the leading Tory blogger in the country jumps in such a way at a mild ribbing, I'd have to say you're right in it being the latter.

I would have thought that this quote would have indicated that it was a non-story from the off, "Ming Campbell said that he was not allowed to go ahead with any form of joint candidate, irrespective of the merits of the candidate, because of their Constitution".

Don't take up dentistry, you appear to have struck a raw nerve...
